Our story began back in 1989 when an insurance broker in Brisbane, Australia asked us to develop software to handle Premium Financing.
After getting an answer to our first question, “What is Premium Financing” we decided we could enhance our current debtors and creditors modules to provide a solution for this broker. Our first ever Loan Enquiry screen looked like the image displayed here.
It was written in the COBOL programming language and ran on Unix operating systems. Those of us old enough will remember the user of Function keys – mice weren’t around then!
We weren’t immune to the issue confronting most software in the world, the year 2000 bug. Combine this with the need to move to a windows based architecture, we rewrote our package and the resultant Loan Enquiry screen looked like the image provided.
This version ran on Windows servers and we were responding to the invention of the mouse by adding LOTS of buttons.
Ten years later (in 2009) it was time for another re-write, this time to be browser based. Incorporating the learnings from the previous 20 years, we changed from programming in COBOL to Microsoft .Net/C# and moved to a SQL database.

Following the tradition of the past 30 years, in 2019 we are redeveloping again. This redevelopment uses the Angular programming language (while keeping the SQL server backend).
Our latest Loan Enquiry screen are fresh, innovative and easy to use.
Being believers in the Japanese word “Kaizen” (i.e. continuously making small improvements), we don’t let one business day go by without an enhancement to further improve our software. We are proud of what we are able to offer to the market.

Peter Williams has worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years across Australia, New Zealand, Africa and the United Kingdom. He founded Red Planet Software in 2002. He is an active member in the Australian Premium Funding Association with some of Australia’s leading funding providers.
Malcolm has worked in the financial services and premium finance sector for over 25 years. With roles spanning IT, Operations, Marketing, Product development, Process Quality and even Sales, he has worked in small startup premium finance companies as well as major financial institutions such as GE Capital, Allianz, Macquarie and NAB. Malcolm now heads up our North American operations, currently based in Canada.
Wendy has worked with over 200 clients implementing IT systems over a period of 30 years. She has vast experience in recognising and catering for individual client needs and works in conjunction with our clients to achieve the optimal configuration of the Odyssey package for each installation.
Sharon manages the help desk team and client support requirements. They are the first point of call for any feature or support request and manage these requests from inception to delivery.
Reeve is responsible for the technical design and manages the on-going R&D roadmap of the Odyssey application. Having over 25 years in software design and over 15 specifically in the financial services industry.
